In the Coronation Baths

it’s my breath,
in her blood-red ring,

that bolsters
my daughter afloat.

My bold son,
for the first time,

lurches fluently
into the butterfly

and plies the pool
with long, round arms,

like a bowler
from the early days of cricket.

When at last
the three of us meet,

we’re like dolphins
grinning beside a boat.
